FAQ

When it comes to Woolbabe versus other sleeping bags for young ones, their range uses a unique fabric blend of 30% Merino wool and 70% soft organic cotton that is exclusive to their brand.

The result is a line of sleeping bags that are truly effective at regulating your young one’s body temperature to facilitate the best possible sleep. Thanks to the use of organic cotton and Merino wool, Woolbabe sleeping bags are also safe to use if your baby has sensitive skin.

The superior comfort, temperature regulation, and sensitive skin-friendly materials make them a great sleep aid solution for fostering better sleep for your young ones.

To cater to the many seasonal conditions that occur here in New Zealand, Woolbabe’s designed several sleeping bags to suit each season.

First, their summer sleeping bag collection is designed to be worn in the summer or warmer periods throughout the year. They work best in room temperatures ranging from 24°C to 32°C. As these sleeping bags are for the summer, they’re made with one layer of Merino wool and organic cotton to allow for greater breathability while still being effective at regulating your young one’s body temperature.

Next is the 3-Seasons sleeping bag, designed to be worn the most throughout the year. They work best in room temperatures ranging from 18°C to 28°C, allowing you to adjust the clothing your baby wears underneath to account for variations in temperature. The 3-Seasons sleeping bag can typically be used in the daytime year-round and works well for nighttime sleeps from spring through to autumn. It’s made with two layers of Merino wool and soft organic cotton.

Finally, for the coldest days and nights of the year, there are the Woolbabe duvet sleeping bags. These are thicker and create a weighted duvet-like feel for extra winter comfort. They comprise an outer layer of organic cotton and Merino wool, a two-layered lining of 100% organic cotton, and a filling of 100% Australian Merino wool. They’re ideal for room temperatures that range from 14°C to 22°C.

Woolbabe’s sleeping bags come in various sizes to suit your little ones, from newborns to toddlers and young kids. Sizes are listed per the age of your child.

For example, you’ll find sleeping bags for newborns and young babies from 0 to 9 months of age. Other sleeping bags for little ones cover 3 to 24 months, 2 to 4 years, and 3 to 6 years. Their range of sleeping suits can cover young ones aged 6-12 months as well as 1 to 5 years of age. You’ll also find swaddle blankets perfect for wrapping up your newborn or older baby.

It doesn’t matter the age or size of your baby, toddler or young child, Woolbabe has a diverse offering of sleeping bag sizes to suit.

Whether you own a Woolbabe sleeping bag, sleeping suit, swaddle, or socks, their products use a mix of organic cotton and Merino wool across the board. To care for both the cotton and Merino wool, you’ll want to do the following:

  • Machine wash on a gentle/delicate cycle or wash by hand in cold water (both cotton and Merino wool are likely to shrink in hot water)
  • Use a quality liquid wool wash while washing the sleeping bag to help maintain the quality of the Merino wool
  • Immediately after washing the sleeping bag, either hang or flat dry your sleeping bag or run it on a low tumble dry cycle - don’t leave the bag wet in your washing machine. Be mindful that even on a low tumble dry cycle, shrinkage could occur - your best option is ideally to hang dry

Along with these steps, airing out a Woolbabe sleeping bag daily when not in use can reduce how often you’ll need to wash it.

Yes, it is.

The range of Woolbabe sleeping bags focuses on providing a reliable sleeping solution that helps your baby have a good night’s sleep without the need for other blankets and sheets.

As the sleeping bag secures around your baby and prevents them from freely kicking their feet around, there’s no risk of their limbs getting caught between the bars of their cot. And because other blankets and sheets aren’t necessary, it removes the risk of suffocation or choking.

Thanks to the use of soft organic cotton and Merino wool, they’re also well-suited to young ones with sensitive skin.

When it comes to wool that helps keep babies at a comfortable temperature without causing itching or unwanted discomfort, it’s hard to go past Merino wool.

This wool comes from Merino sheep and is renowned for its insulating properties while also being softer and well-suited to anyone who may have sensitive skin. It’s part of the reason why Merino wool is also commonly used as a base layer in cold climates - it insulates without itching.

Regardless of whether your young one has sensitive skin or not, the end result is a sleeping bag that’s luxuriously soft and easily regulates your baby’s temperature for the best sleep possible.
