Improve Your Baby’s Sleep with Vapourisers and Oils

When it comes to helping your baby get a good night’s rest, cool mist vapourisers and humidifiers can be particularly beneficial. For vapourisers and humidifiers that include diffuser capabilities, you can add dashings of essential oils with the water that can help your little ones in different ways.

For example, you may be able to add an essential oil that promotes relaxation or that can assist in decongestion if your baby has a stuffy nose. In general, whether you’re using a vapouriser or humidifier, both can make a room’s space better suited for easy, comfortable sleep.

By reducing the dryness in a room, it can prevent issues like a scratchy throat, help ease congestion by improving moisture in the room, and ultimately allow a baby to breathe more easily.

Certain vapourisers come with additional features beyond vapour and diffuser capabilities. Sleepytot’s Ultimate Sleep Aid, as an example, can also be a night light and play soothing sounds that include white and pink noise.

Vapourisers vs Humidifiers

What are the key differences between vapourisers and humidifiers? Both add moisture to the air, but vapourisers have traditionally been designed with individual uses in mind. Humidifiers, on the other hand, are often primarily designed to add needed humidity to a specific room or space.

As with many products, both of these now come in options that are focused on providing benefits to individuals, including babies.

While traditional vapourisers often use heat to create water vapour, there are cool-mist and ultrasonic vapourisers that can create the same vapour without the need for heat. Ultrasonic vapourisers, for example, use high-frequency vibrations to break water into tiny droplets that then leave the vapouriser as a fine mist.

Unlike general humidifiers, vapourisers are usually more focused on individual well-being and health-related functions. These can include improved respiration, reduced nasal congestion, easing a dry throat, using essential oils for different physiological effects, etc.

Given the wide array of options available these days, you’ll find plenty of options between both that offer similar core functions and benefits. It all really comes down to which baby vapouriser or baby humidifier you think is best suited to your little one’s needs.

FAQ

When it comes to using vapourisers to help your baby sleep, it’s not a product you’ll necessarily need to use every night or naptime, but it’s absolutely worthwhile having on hand.

If you live in a part of the country where humidity is relatively low, a vapouriser will help add some much-needed moisture to the room. In drier climates, a scratchy throat or blocked nose can be more common, especially when the dry’s mixed with cool temperatures.

Even if you live in an area that gets good humidity year-round, vapourisers are still a worthy investment to have on hand. That way, there’s something ready to go when your little ones are feeling unwell or are congested.

The use of essential oils to promote greater relaxation and assist in the alleviation of congestion or other cold-like symptoms are definitely positives worth keeping in mind, too.

You can effectively start using a vapouriser at any time in a baby’s life, so it’s up to you as to when or if you purchase one. Of course, if your baby has frequent issues that could be the result of dry air, we’d suggest purchasing a baby vapouriser to try out.

Be mindful that if your child has more pronounced respiratory or health issues, we strongly recommend you speak with a doctor first to discuss if the use of a vapouriser would be beneficial to them.

Finally, when using essential oils, you usually only need a few drops at most. You want the scent of the oil to be present in the vapour, but it should be a subtle presence, not overpowering in any way.
