FAQ

Looking after you’re hearing is important for people of all ages, but is especially important for babies. Not only is their sense of hearing still developing and strengthening, but certain types of excess noise can be particularly overwhelming for babies who’re still learning to process the various sounds and sensations that come with early life.

While young babies do tend to enjoy a certain degree of sound to sleep (particularly white noise or other frequencies that mimic sounds of the womb), other unfamiliar day-to-day sounds can trigger and upset them. Noise-dampening earmuffs are an effective means of protecting their ears and ensuring they don’t have to endure prolonged exposure to upsetting or damaging sounds.

No matter the set of earmuffs you purchase for your baby, each set is designed with their comfort in mind. They’re specially designed to ensure they can fit on an infant’s head without causing pressure, and each is manufactured with materials that keep them lightweight and comfortable for smaller, softer heads.

By design, they reduce the intensity and volume of louder and more abrupt sounds (e.g. fireworks, yelling crowds, loud music at concerts, etc.) while still enabling them to hear you talking to them. So, they protect their hearing, sit gently on their heads, and still allow them to know when you’re talking to them.

The range of earmuffs sold at Sleepytot works through sound-dampening. This process ensures that the earmuffs significantly reduce the intensity of loud noises while keeping softer noises (such as the sound of your voice) legible.

It’s a key form of infant hearing protection that profoundly lessens the risk of hearing damage or loss. While the degree of sound-dampening can vary between models, many will reduce overall noise levels by around 25 decibels.

When perusing the range, you’ll see two key brands: Ems and Banz. When purchasing a pair of earmuffs from Banz, you’ll find that the earmuffs themselves are made with foam-filled cushions that offer exceptional comfort as a result.

The range of Ems baby and kids’ earmuffs is made with a soft-yet-durable plastic that ensures a comfortable fit and a product with the build quality necessary to last for several years.

As the range of earmuffs for babies and young children we sell comes from both Australian and New Zealand brands, all of them are designed with applicable safety standards in mind. The range of Banz earmuffs, for example, has been designed to meet AS/NZS 1270:2002 – the Australian and New Zealand safety standard for earmuffs.

Whatever brand of earmuffs you ultimately choose to go with, you can rest assured they’re rated for exceptional noise protection based on global safety standards.
